My first post on the Mighty came from my desire to put into words all of the things that I wanted to share with my husband when I was having an anxiety attack and words seemed hard to come by. I wanted to share these words in the hopes that they would be useful to someone else who was going through the same thing.
The reactions that I received from this article cemented my belief that I made the right decision by sharing something so incredibly personal to me. The support that I received was overwhelming and the comments that were left made my heart full.
The internet can be a vicious, terrible place, but it can also be a gateway to an incredible community of people that will support you and lift you up (even when they’ve never met you).
I have recently started joining groups on Facebook that are related to things that I’m going through. Whether it be PCOS, PMDD, anxiety or depression; I have found these incredible groups of people who have the same questions, are going through the same struggles and are just looking for some empathy and someone to tell them they’re not alone.
What a remarkable concept: using the internet for good. For someone like me, who has a really hard time communicating about these things in person, having a virtual forum where you can express your thoughts, feelings, and just vent sometimes to people who really, truly know where you’re coming from is an absolutely incredible thing.
Utilize your community. Lean on each other. Love each other.
People can be terrible, but they can also be so incredibly wonderful. I like to believe in the latter.
You are so mighty, each and every day.
I've experienced the exact same thing. Opening up about my difficulties (bipolar2 and anxiety) have opened up a new world.
